Neal A. Maxwell

"Within the swirling global events- events from which we are not totally immune- is humanity's real and continuting struggle: whether or not, amid the cares of the world, we really choose, in the words of the Lord, to "care for the life of the soul." Whatever our anxious involvements with outward events, this inner struggle proceeds in both tranquil and turbulent times. Whether understood or recognized, this is the unchanging moral agendum from generation to generation."

That's Life

Because I love Frank Sinatra:

Lately, I've been turning on movies while I sew or work on Illustrator. Luckily, Chiki has an extensive collection for me to pick from. In the mix this week has been Tuesdays with Morrie. I read this book before the movie came out and books are always so much more enjoyable than movies, but I still get a lot from the movie. It always makes me cry. A few things Morrie teaches have been on my mind. Among the quotable quotes:

"Life is a series of pulls back and forth. You want to do one thing, but you are bound to something else. Something hurts you, yet you know it shouldn't. You take certain things for granted, even when you know you should never take anything for granted. A tension of opposites, like a pull on a rubber band. And most of us live somewhere in the middle. A wrestling match. Yes you could describe life that way. Which side wins? Love wins. Love always wins."

"Aging is not just decay, you know. It's growth. It's more than the negative that you're going to die, it's also the positive that you understand you're going to die, and that you live a better life because of it. You know what that reflects? Unsatisfied lives. Unfulfilled lives. Lives that haven't found meaning. Because if you've found meaning in your life, you don't want to go back. You want to go forward. You want to see more, do more. You can't wait until sixty-five."

"Dying, is only one thing to be sad over. Living unhappily is something else."

This is life, so let's get happy. (I'm trying to convince myself... hahah.ha..ha.....hmmm.)
